Mrs. Durgabahavani approached the KVK to get the training on Mushroom cultivation and she underwent three consecutive trainings at KVK. Her family involved in tannery work at Vaniyampadi, due to various constraints in the industry, she switched over to Mushroom cultivation.  The main interventions are trainings, demonstration, farm advisory service for milky mushroom cultivation. She is producing 1500 kg milky mushroom/month. She follows scientific techniques for mushroom and spawns production

A sunken poly houses ( for cropping) seven feet deep pit is dug out and sides are lined with hollow blocks and semi circular structure is built with GI pipe of L angle and covered with blue silpauline sheet. Paddy straw is processed as in oyster mushroom cultivation and cylindrical beds are prepared with 90x 30 cm polythene bags and stored at 30 ⁰C in thatched sheds

After 18-20 days packed paddy straw covered with white mycelial growth, the bags are cut in to two halves and casing soil (autoclaved garden soil) is layered on to the cut halves for 2 cm height and sprayed with water

Innovation Idea of multitier bed arrangement system :

The innovative idea was originated due to excess depth while digging the shed construction. The recommended depth was 3 feet but the grower dug 7 feet.

The grower approached the KVK and suggested the rack system for arrangement of beds subject to the condition on maintenance of temperature and relative humidity.

With the suggestion of KVK, the thought was executed and worked viable with better performance.  At this juncture, farmers are accepting innovative idea of KVK can accommodate more no of beds which leads to more production of mushroom in single unit instead of three separate units.

She formed 3 layers in a single area as rack tire system. The multitier bed system in milky mushroom cultivation idea was aimed to double the production in an unit area and reduction of cost inputs, capital and drudgery reduction.

Impact

The technology was assessed by KVK, Vellore based on the cost of economics. Her mushroom unit is also used as model unit in Vellore district among mushroom growers.
