 TREE CULTIVATION IN PATTA LANDS (TCPL)

The area can be survey depending upon the resource availability, man power etc. For that particular area seedlings are given at free of cost @160 trees per acre and maintain by farmer through proper agreement between farmer and department. After the particular time (10 -12 months), giving/ announce incentive to the percentage of plant survival

12th FINANCE COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION - FOREST MAINTAINANCE OF FOREST GRANTS IN AID WORKS FOR 07-08

As per the recommendations of 12th finance commission, the state government has sanctioned several lakhs for restoration works to be implemented over a period of 5 years from 2006 -2007. It covers the works of

  1. Conservation and ecorestoration of degraded forest in Nilgris and Palani hills
  2. Improvement of roads in the forest area
  3. Bio diversity conservation
  4. Maintenance and special repair of forest department buildings
  5. Raising shola seedling for afforestation

ACTIVITIES

  • Construct solar fencing in Chinna Thadagam area about 5 km i.e. boundary lines of reserve forest and village through people of that village (especially by ST) to protect animal entry from forest to village
  • Development JFMC in Mannar village

BENEFICIARIES

  • People benefited as employment opportunities and from entry of animal of reserve forest
  • Reserve forests itself benefited through prevention of entry of people to degraded it and animals are saved.

WESTERN GHAT DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The programme envisages Eco-restoration, eco-stabilisation, eco-development and eco-protection in the Western Ghats. Protected and conserve the flora and fauna. Resoration of degraded forest areas, creating water harvesting structure, soil conservation, medicinal plant conservation, erection of solar fencing providing basic infrastructure facilities to the trial areas.

ACTIVITIES

  • Development of bamboo variety tree farm in Boolampatti and Mettupalayam reserve about 40 ha.
  • Giving 16 search light to watcher
  • Development 6 JFMC

BENEFICIARIES

  • Development of employment of that area (Boolampatti and Mettupalayam) ST people for establishing 40 ha farm
  • Development of forest covers of 40 ha

NILGRIS BIOSPHERE RESERVE SCHEME

Under this scheme the work such as creating awareness and publicity, conducting nature camps, special camps, constructing interpretation centre, eco development activities, health camps, resoration of habitats, creating educational awareness.

ACTIVITIES
           
            Proving drinking water facilities in Nilgiris reserve area i.e.Eluthurecal village through bore well.

BENEFICIARIES

            People of that village by good water facilities.


PLANTING TALLER SEEDLING IN URBAN OR SUBURBAN AREAS

Rapid urbanization and industrialization in Municipal Corporation and their suburbs are leading to increased pollution. To decrease the pollution develop tree planting in municipal area road sides

ACTIVITIES

            Under this scheme seedling raised and planted in Coimbatore urban areas and suburban areas. The seedling height 2m of different kinds tree species – Pungam, Neem, Pheltophoram, May flower, Poovarasu, Arasu Allam etc.

BENEFICIARIES
           
            Giving employment to people by raising seedling, planting and maintenance.


PROJECT ELEPHANT

Under this scheme, Elephant protection, fire protection measures, water facilities to elephants, payment of compensation to the damage crops and loss of human lives caused by elephant etc, erection of solar fence to control the man animal conflict are proposed.

ACTIVITIES

            Erecting solar fencing about 15.5 km in Ottanthurai, Madhukarai and Chinna thadagam area.
            Compensation to loss caused by forest animals and birds about
            Crop – Rs. 15,000/ac (Maximum)
            House –Rs. 5000
            Death – Rs 1 lakh
            Injury – Depending upon injury level
(Just giving petition to Collector with VAO certificate, chitta and patta adegal, revenue certificate then enquiry about that damage by VAO and Ranger through spot visit and proposal of damage loss to the office and giving compensation)

INTEGRATED FOREST PROTECTION

This scheme implemented by the forest department is shared between government of India and the state government in the ration of 75 and 25. The main objective of this scheme is to control forest fires and strengthen forest protection measure. Construction of cairns to prevent encroachment to another important item of works other work in assistance to JFMC. Creating water bodies inside forest, purchase communication equipments and purchase of fire flighting tools etc.

ACTIVITIES

  • Construct 150 no cairns in reserve areas by ST people
  • Providing fire flighting equipments
  • Providing water facilities – bore well in forest area
  • Development of 7 JFMC

BENEFICIARIES         

  • Employment opportunity to ST people for construction work
  • Protect from fire
  • Water scarcity of that area is eliminated and provide good water to animals.

FOREST PROTECTION

Under this scheme, protect the forest from fire through fire line cleaning i.e. road adjoining the forest area. 3 meter width in both side are cleaned thereby forest fire movement from one side to another side arrested.

ACTIVITIES

            Fire line cleaning of about 10km of Coimbatore reserve area by the people of ST

            Through this scheme employment opportunity to ST people is provided.


RAISING TALLER PLANTS FREE SUPPLY SEEDLING 8330 Nos

Under this scheme raising seedling of variety tree plant and distribute the 2m height seedling to Institution, school and college, government hospital primary health centre to protect pollution.

ACTIVITIES

            Raising 8333 taller seedling and distributed to institution and government hospital

BENEFICIARIES

            People near by area are protected from pollution


RAISING AND PLANTING TEAK SEEDLING IN OUTSIDE FOREST  (i.e). PRIVATE PATTA LANDS

A new scheme is being launched from this year for providing financial and technical support to small and marginal farming for growing drought resistant timber tree species on wastelands in private farm holding (i.e. fallow for atleast 3 years consecutively)

ACTIVITIES

  • Raising 75,000 teak seedlings and distributed to range area of Mettupalayam, south kovai and North kovai at about 160 plants/acre for 228 marginal and small farmers (less than 2ha)
  • Rate spending for per seedlings 8.59 and incentive 6.25Rs /tree of survival in first year

            Farmers of marginal and small farmers


TCPL PREPARTARY WORKS

To create forest cover in private lands of small and marginal farmers wastelands with timber value tree teak

ACTIVITIES

            Raising nursery to develop seedling of 35000 teak for distribution to small and marginal farmers

  • Employment of ST people for raising nursery
  • Small and marginal farmers

FOUNDATION FOR REVITALISATION OF LOCAL HEALTH TRADITION (FRLHT)

Now a days, local traditional medicinal plant are cultivated in less area and importance of that tree plants are not known to so many people. So, the foundation started in Bangalore to develop such value trees in our locality.
