| Nursery Technique |
The raised mother bed is formed to a size of 1 x 5 m. After watering spread seeds in mother bed and cover with a thin layer of fine sand. Before covering the bed with straw BHC 10% powder is applied on the bed to avoid damage caused by insects. Watering is done twice a day. Germination will be noticed between 5 and 22 days. The germinants are watered twice in a day for 15 to 20 days till they are pricked out in 10 x 20 cm polythene bag. Prickout seedling with initial germinative vigour (50% culling) from the motherbed. The plant percent is about 5%. Transplanted seedlings in a bag can be kept in the nursery for about 3 to 5 months to attain the size of 30 cm for planting in the field. |
